Tommy Luce scored 2 points in the final minutes as everything was good for #24 Purdue. The Boilermakers opened the new season, cruising past Fairfield 90-57.
Carsen Edwards picked up right where he left off last season. Edwards dropped a game-high 30 points on 10-17 shooting from the field, including 7-11 from deep. Ryan Cline added 13 points and 8 assists. Eric Hunter and Evan Boudreaux each chipped in 10 points.
It wasn’t the best start for Purdue, down 6-0 early to the Stags. A 13-4 run got the Boilers back in the game and never looked back. Purdue held a lead as large as 21 with 2:08 left in the first half. They would end up heading into the break with a 44-27 advantage.
Purdue opened the second half on a strong note. The Boilers increased their lead to 52-29 less than 2 minutes into the action. After going back and forth until the 5:32 mark, the Boilers took complete control. Purdue ended the game on an 18-2 run over the final 5:15, going 8-for-10 on field goals. The final score would be 90-57, a 33-point win over Fairfield.
Overall, Purdue shot 32-59 (54%) from the field, 14-30 (47%) from deep, and 12-15 (80%) from the charity stripe. Additionally, the Boilers won the rebound battle with ease. Purdue racked up 40 total rebounds with 28 defensive and 8 offensive. Their ball movement was on key dishing out 18 assists, including 8 from Ryan Cline.
