NL Central tie-breaker on Monday! The Cubs beat St. Louis 10-5 on Sunday but finish with the same record as Milwaukee. This means the Cubs and Brewers play to determine the winner of the NL Central. At least we didn’t lose the division today and still have a chance to win!
Anthony Rizzo: 4 for 4, 3 R, 1 RBI
Javy Baez: 2 for 4, 3 R
Willson Contreras: 1 for 3, HR, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB
Kris Bryant: 1 for 4, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB
How it Happened
The Cubs did not get off to a great start, down 2-0 early. Luckily, a big 3rd and 5th inning propelled the Cubs. Ben Zobrist’s RBI triple got the Cubs on the board, down 2-1. Zobrist scored on a wild pitch, tying it 2-2. The Cubs still weren’t done, claiming the lead.
Anthony Rizzo drove in a run, making it a 3-2 Cubs lead. Jason Heyward’s RBI single capped off the 3rd inning, as the Cubs led 4-2.
The Cubs added key insurance runs in the 5th. Kris Bryant’s 2-run double gave the Cubs a 6-2 lead. Then, Willson Contreras’ 2-run homer gave the Cubs a big 8-2 lead. After St. Louis scored 2 in the 6th, the Cubs got them right back. Bryant and Albert Almora each had RBI singles, leading the Cardinals 10-4.
Brandon Kintzler allowed a run in the 7th, but the Cubs bullpen came through after. Jorge De La Rosa worked through 2 walks in the 9th, as the Cubs held on for a 10-5 win.
