Wow! After blowing a 6-4 lead in the 9th, Albert Almora is the hero! Almora walks the Cubs off in 10, just shortly after clinching they clinched the postseason! What a night!
Jason Heyward: 2 for 5, HR, 1 R, 3 RBI
Albert Almora: 1 for 2, 1 RBI
Jose Quintana: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 Ks
How it Happened
After allowing a solo homer in the first, the Cubs went on a roll. Jason Heyward blasted a 2-run homer in the bottom half of the inning, giving the Cubs a 2-1 lead. After a scoreless second, the Cubs tacked on 2 more in the third. Anthony Rizzo’s sacrifice fly and a bases-loaded walk gave the Cubs a 4-1 lead.
Javy Baez and Jason Heyward’s RBI singles in the fourth inning extended the lead to 6-1. After gaining such a huge advantage, things didn’t go so well.
Jose Quintana allowed his second solo homer of the game, making it 6-2. Thereafter, the Cubs bullpen struggled tremendously. They allowed 2 runs in the 8th and 9th, unfortunately sending the game to extras.
After a quick top half of the 10th, the Cubs wasted no time to win. Ian Happ took a walk and was replaced by pinch-runner Terrance Gore. At this point, there’s only one goal in mind and it’s to score the speedy Gore.
With a sac-fly and groundout, Gore was only 90 feet away from scoring. And he came around on Albert Almora’s walk-off single, as the Cubs won 7-6.
One Great Moment
