Purdue Football is at home again, facing Missouri tonight under the lights. It’s a must win for the Boilers to avoid starting the season 0-3. Luckily last season, Purdue crushed the Tigers 35-3 on the road. They’ll look to do it again tonight.
Last Week (Purdue)
Purdue lost last a tough game last Saturday to Eastern Michigan, falling 20-19. The Boilers ran out of gas down at the end, not able to record a stop. At least, without a penalty. Eastern Michigan hit the game-winning field goal with time expiring, defeating the Boilermakers.
Purdue’s run game was second to none, completing tearing up the Eagles defense. D.J. Knox led the way with 21 carries for 152 yards and a touchdown. Markell Jones added 12 rushes for 109 yards. In total, the Boilers ran 42 times for a whopping 341 yards. That was not enough to overcome the minimal pass game on a rainy day.
Fumbles were the story of the game. Purdue fumbled 5 times and lost 2 of them. The defense forced and recovered 1 Eastern Michigan fumble. Those can be blamed on the poor weather, as it was raining the entire time. It’s not too big of a concern moving forward for Purdue, but something to monitor today. There should be some kinder weather in West Lafayette, however.
Last Week (Missouri)
Missouri crushed Wyoming last Saturday 40-13. The Tigers had 601 yards of total offense with complete domination. QB Drew Lock threw for 398 yards and 4 touchdowns. Missouri only led 16-0 at halftime but turned it on in the second half.
Overall, the Tigers are 2-0 this season with two big win margins. Following Purdue, Missouri takes on #3-ranked Georgia and #1-ranked Alabama in the next 3 weeks. With that very tough schedule ahead, the Boilers hope Missouri is off their game for this much-smaller matchup.
