It wasn’t one of the prettiest wins this season, but the Cubs shutout Cincinnati 1-0 on Saturday.
Willson Contreras: 2 for 3, 1 RBI
Javy Baez: 1 for 4, 1 R
Jon Lester: 7.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB 9 Ks, Win (16-6)
How it Happened
Jon Lester dominated the Reds lineup, firing 7.0 shutout innings. Reds starter Cody Reed dominated the Cubs lineup, with 5.0 shutout innings and 10 Ks. That was the story of the game as the Cubs could not score a run. That was until the 6th inning when Willson Contreras delivered. Contreras knocked in a run on a single, as the Cubs went up 1-0. Cubs relievers did their job, as the Cubs held on for a 1-0 shutout over Cincinnati.
One Great Moment
Willson Contreras came through big time. He broke up the 0-0 tie as the Cubs finally scored. Javy Baez came around from second to score the only run of the day. Luckily it was enough. Check it out:
