The Cubs held Philadelphia to just 1 run again, as they beat the Phillies 8-1 on Sunday.
Anthony Rizzo: 2 for 2, HR, 3 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB
Javy Baez: 2 for 5, HR, 2 R, 1 RBI
Ian Happ: 2 for 4, 2 RBI
Jon Lester: 6.0 IP, 8 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 K, Win (15-5)
How it Happened
The Cubs did all the scoring in this one until the 9th. Jon Lester tossed a gem with 6.0 scoreless innings. Daniel Murphy started things off in the 3rd with a solo homer. Anthony Rizzo in the 4th followed up Murphy with a 1-run homer of his own. The Cubs led 2-0. Javy Baez would continue the trend in the 6th inning.
Baez collected his 30th homer and 100th RBI on a solo blast, putting the Cubs up 3-0. Kyle Schwarber hit an RBI triple in the 6th, making it 4-0. Just when we thought the Cubs were done scoring, they weren’t.
Anthony Rizzo’s RBI single, Ian Happ’s RBI double, and Albert Almora’s sac fly gave the Cubs an 8-0 lead. Trying to preserve the shutout in the ninth, Brandon Kintzler failed. Luckily, he bounced back, getting the third out. The Cubs won the series 2-1 after an 8-1 win.
One Great Moment
Javy Baez just became the 4th infielder in Cubs history with 30 homers and 100 RBI in the same season. Check out this historic homergiving Baez the feat:
