After signing Drew Smyly in the offseason, he finally threw in a documented game. Smyly rehabbed with the South Bend Cubs with the start. Just as he was scheduled to, Smyly pitched 1.0 inning. He made the most of three outs, striking out the side.
Smyly looked really good, striking out first two batters looking. His third and last batter faced struck out swinging. It was a breeze for Smyly, using only 13 pitches with 10 strikes. There’s certainly some excitement after such a tremendous inning.
Drew Smyly signed a 2-year, $10 million contract in December. He’s been out since June 2017 with Tommy John surgery. Given that he might not be feeling pain, we could see Smyly pitch in September. With the 40-man expanded rosters coming on Saturday, anything’s possible. He’s been a starter since 2014 and could provide several innings out of the bullpen if needed.

We’d say that was quite the success. 🙂 pic.twitter.com/yAXnlpcEnF
