How it Happened
Ian Happ and Daniel Murphy gave the offense an early boost in the 2nd. Happ hit an RBI single and Murphy homered, as the Cubs led 3-0. The Reds scored 2 in the fourth, however, Kyle Schwarber had a response. Schwarber blasted a two-run homer, giving the Cubs a 5-2 lead. That was only the beginning of an offensive outpour.
Javy Baez hit a solo homer in the 6th, making it 6-2. Anthony Rizzo followed up Baez with an RBI single. Daniel Murphy knocked in a run, extending the lead to 8-2. Javy Baez put the icing on the cake with an RBI single in the 7th, making it 10-2.
Those extra runs ended up being key, as the Reds scored four runs late. Jorge De La Rosa recorded the final five outs without hesitation, as the Cubs beat Cincinnati 10-6.
