How it Happened
It took the Cubs offense no time to score. Anthony Rizzo blasted a two-run homer in the first, giving the Cubs a 2-1 lead. Javy Baez made the play of the game in the third, with a 481-foot moon shot. Baez gave extended the lead to 3-1. Rizzo continued the offensive success with a sacrifice fly, making it 4-1.
Just like against Detroit, the Cubs added key insurance runs. Ben Zobrist and Victor Caratini cranked RBI singles, giving the Cubs a 7-1 lead. Cole Hamels was brilliant all throughout with the chance for a complete game. Hamels got into a jam in the ninth but prevailed with a double play. That ended the inning, as the Cubs won 7-1.
