Single-A: South Bend Cubs

South Bend 5, Great Lakes 11 F/11 (20-25)

  • SS Rafael Narea went 2-for-5 with 2 runs scored.
  • LF Jimmy Herron went 1-for-4 with a run scored and 2 RBI.
  • RHP Jeff Passantino was excellent in his first South Bend start. Passantino fired 6.0 shutout innings, allowing just four hits and a walk. He struck out a career-high 9 batters, earning a no-decision after a late bullpen collapse. He’s been superb this season, posting an 8-0 record with a 2.60 ERA and 1.13 WHIP.

Double-A: Tennessee Smokies

Tennessee 6, Biloxi 1 (21-23)

  • 2B Vimael Machin went 2-for-4 with a 2-run home run.
  • SS Zack Short went 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored.
  • 1B Yasiel Balaguert went 1-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI.
  • RHP Matt Swarmer threw 6.0 strong innings, picking up the win. Swarmer allowed six hits and an unearned run. He struck out seven and walked none. Swarmer’s start marked his third straight allowing two earned runs or less, dating back to July 26th.
