The Cubs won the third game of the series against Arizona on Wednesday, 2-1.
Albert Almora: 2 for 3, 1 R
Ben Zobrist: 1 for 3, 1 RBI
Jason Heyward: Game-Winning RBI Groundout
Jon Lester: 6.0+ IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K
How it Happened
The Cubs were the first to score in the game, finally. Albert Almora doubled to right and Ben Zobrist singled home Almora, putting the Cubs up 1-0. Arizona tied it 1-1 in the seventh off Jon Lester. Lester was pulled for Carl Edwards right after, still with a great outing. The Cubs made some noise in the bottom of the eighth and capitalized.
Javy Baez singled and took second before Tyler Chatwood pinch ran. Baez’s knee still was sore from a slide the night before. Jason Heyward delivered with big time with an RBI groundout, scoring Chatwood. Heyward gave the Cubs a late 2-1 lead. Pedro Strop shut down the D-Backs in the 9th, earning the save en route to a 2-1 win.
One Great Moment
You’ve probably heard this before. Albert Almora made a great defensive play. In the second inning on what normally would be a single, Almora turned the play into an out. Almora made an incredible diving catch that received tons of approval from Jon Lester:
