How it Happened
After offensive firepower in game one, it took the Cubs six innings before they would score. Tommy La Stella was issued a bases-loaded walk to start a three-run inning. Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant each delivered RBIs, giving the Cubs a 3-1 lead. St. Louis made it a one-run game in the seventh and tied in the eighth. Trying to keep it tied heading into the bottom of the ninth, the Cubs fell apart. The Cardinals took a 6-3 lead off Justin Wilson and Steve Cishek. After 1-2-3 ninth, the Cubs fell 6-3.
The Cubs fall to 57-40 this year, now only 2.5 games ahead of Milwaukee.
