RECAP — Cubs 7, Mets 4

The Cubs just keep on finding ways to win with the come from behind victory over the Mets on Friday, winning 7-4. They did so in a big way with 17 hits and 7 runs mostly because of Kyle Schwarber’s pinch-hit heroics.

Standout Performers

Kyle Schwarber: 1 for 1, HR, 1 R, 4 RBI
Ben Zobrist: 3 for 4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Albert Almora: 3 for 4, 1 R
Kris Bryant: 3 for 4, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Addison Russell: 3 for 5, 1 R

How it Happened

The Cubs were down 2-0 all the way to the seventh inning when the offense finally came alive and exploded. Kyle Schwarber hit a sacrifice to center that got things going for the Cubs, making it just a 2-1 Mets lead. Then Ben Zobrist followed up Schwarber with an RBI double to deep right-center that tied the game 2-2. Then came an RBI single from Kris Bryant in the same inning, that gave the Cubs a 3-2 lead suddenly and a good chance of winning.

They would take that score all day long after they were shutout for six innings, but Kyle Schwarber wanted to make sure of things that the Cubs would win. In the eighth inning, Schwarber blasted a three-run home run to opposite field that put the Cubs up 6-2 ensuring the win over New York. The Mets added two runs in the eighth, but Ian Happ hit an RBI single to right that got one of those back as the Cubs went on to win 7-4.

One Great Moment

There is only one play from this entire game that is even worthy of sharing, and it was Kyle Schwarber’s icing on the cake oppo-home run in the eighth. This turned out to be so crucial for the Cubs because the Mets would score two more runs before this game was over. Without it, the Cubs could have lost. Luckily, Schwarber absolutely crushed this baseball for our “One Great Moment” of the game.

Standings Check

The Cubs improve to 31-23 this season, staying firm in second place now only 3.0 games back of the Brewers.
