Cubs Minor League Recap: 7/12


Tennessee and Myrtle Beach picked up wins while Eugene fell short in the Cubs Minor League on Wednesday.

Low-A: Eugene Emeralds

Eugene 7, Spokane 8 (9-17, 4th Place)

  • C Brennon Kaleiwahea went 2-for-4.
  • LF Nelson Velazquez went 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI.
  • DH Luis Diaz went 1-for-2 with a double, run scored, two RBI, and one walk.
  • SS Luis Vazquez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in the 4th.

Single-A: South Bend Cubs

South Bend 3, Beloit 10 (11-9, 4th Place)

  • C Miguel Amaya went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in the 6th.
  • CF Zach Davis went 2-for-3 with a run scored, one RBI, and two walks.
  • 2B Christian Donahue went 2-for-4.

High-A: Myrtle Beach Pelicans

Myrtle Beach 6, Carolina 3 (8-13, 5th Place)

  • 3B Wladimir Galindo went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk.
  • RF Roberto Caro went 1-for-3 with a run scored, two RBI, and one walk.
  • 2B Andruw Monasterio went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a walk.
  • RHP Rollie Lacy dominated over 5 1/3 innings in his Myrtle Beach debut. Lacy gave up four hits and an unearned run with one walk and seven strikeouts. Lacy picked up the win after striking out six batters in his first 2.0 innings. He was called up from South Bend the other day, with an excellent season thus far. Lacy’s now 5-1 with a 1.88 ERA and 1.03 WHIP overall in 17 games.

Double-A: Tennessee Smokies

Tennessee 4, Montgomery 2 (13-7, 1st Place)

  • DH Trent Giambrone went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a solo home run in the 1st.
  • SS Zack Short went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in the 1st.
  • RHP Michael Rucker tossed 6.0 strong innings for Tennessee. Rucker gave up three hits and an unearned run with no walks and three strikeouts. He has not allowed an earned run in his last two starts (10.0 IP). Rucker improves to 7-4 this year with a 3.49 ERA and 1.12 WHIP.

Triple-A: Iowa Cubs

Off, All-Star Break. RHP Alberto Baldonado was the only Cubs prospect in the game. Baldonado faced two batters in the 8th inning. He retired both with one strikeout.
