Cubs Minor League Recap: 7/9

South Bend’s pitching impressed once again as No. 6 prospect Brendon Little stole the show in another great day for the Cubs Minor League.

Low-A: Eugene Emeralds

Eugene 4, Hillsboro 3 (9-15, 4th Place)

  • DH Gustavo Polanco went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
  • RF Jonathan Sierra went 1-for-3 with a run scored and walk.
  • RHP Jose Albertos finally found his groove after a very rough start to the year. Albertos pitched 4.0 innings allowing two hits and two earned runs, striking out five. He threw 69 pitches with 38 strikes. The numbers may not sound impressive, but it’s a major improvement from Albertos.

Single-A: South Bend Cubs

South Bend 10, Lansing 0 (10-8, 4th Place)

  • 3B Cam Balego went 3-for-5 with a double, run scored, and 2 RBI.
  • C Michael Cruz went 2-for-5 with two doubles and 2 RBI.
  • DH Miguel Amaya went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and hit a solo home run in the 7th.
  • RHP Brendon Little had a phenomenal start, tossing 6.0 innings of scoreless baseball. Little gave up three hits and a walk, while striking out a career-high 9 batters. Little’s third quality start his best this year, and perhaps best with the Cubs.

High-A: Myrtle Beach Pelicans

Myrtle Beach 7, Buies Creek 8 (6-12, 5th Place)

  • C P.J. Higgins went 3-for-6 with 2 RBI.
  • DH Jhonny Pereda went 2-for-6 with two runs scored and hit a solo homer in the 5th.
  • SS Aramis Ademan went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, one RBI, and two walks.
  • 1B Jared Young went 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Double-A: Tennessee Smokies

Tennessee 1, Montgomery 7 (11-6, 1st Place)

  • DH Eddy Martinez went 3-for-4.
  • 1B Yasiel Balaguert went 1-for-4 with a double and RBI.
  • LF Charcer Burks went 1-for-4 with a run scored.

Triple-A: Iowa Cubs

Iowa 3, Nashville 5 (31-57, 4th Place)

  • CF Trey Martin went 2-for-3 with a triple, run scored, and a walk.
  • C Ali Solis went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in the 8th.
  • 3B Jason Vosler went 1-for-4 with a run scored, extending his hitting streak to 13 games.
