RECAP — Cubs 2, Reds 3

A Cubs comeback in the bottom of the ninth fell short as the Cubs win streak was snapped with a 3-2 loss on Friday.

Standout Performers

Willson Contreras: 2 for 4, 1 R
Anthony Rizzo: 2 for 4
Albert Almora: 1 for 4, 1 RBI

How it Happened

Mike Montgomery gave up three runs on six hits through the first five innings of the game, as the Cubs trailed the Reds 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth. Albert Almora put them on the board with an RBI groundout on a fielder’s choice, making it only a 3-1 deficit. Later in the eighth, Ben Zobrist hit a sacrifice fly out to center that cut the Reds lead down to only 3-2 still with two outs. Willson Contreras grounded out to end the inning, stranding two baserunners. In the bottom of the ninth, Ian Happ was on second with two outs, but Jason Heyward used an 8 pitch at-bat resulting in a fly out to left as the Cubs fell 3-2.

Standings Check

The Cubs fall to 49-36 this season, now 2.5 games behind Milwaukee.
