Javy Baez just keeps on being Javy Baez. After a stellar week of Cubs offense with four straight wins, Baez was just named the National League Player of the Week for June 25 to July 1.
During this stretch, Baez batted .483 with a 1.363 OPS, 8 extra base hits, 10 runs, and 11 RBI. On the season, he’s batting .290 with 16 homers and 61 RBI. Surprisingly, those numbers aren’t good enough on the All-Star ballot, as he’s trailing by almost 300,000 votes at second base. Baez has fallen from second to third place despite a recent surge in his production.
Also announced on Monday, Baez’s teammate Jon Lester was named National League Pitcher of the Month after a strong June campaign.
