The Cubs won their second straight on Friday, blasting four homers in a 10-6 win over the Twins at Wrigley.
Addison Russell: 1 for 4, HR, 1 R, 4 RBI, 1 BB
Albert Almora: 3 for 5, 2 R
Jason Heyward: 2 for 4, HR, 3 R, 2 RBI
Ben Zobrist: 1 for 3, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI
Kyle Schwarber: 1 for 2, HR, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB
How it Happened
The Cubs offense once again starred on Friday, but it came mostly after the Twins scored five runs in the first four innings. In the third inning down 3-0, Jason Heyward cranked a two-run bomb into right that made it a one-run game at the time. In the fifth trailing 5-2, Addison Russell delivered something Javy Baez just did the other night, a first-pitch grand slam into left. Russell’s bomb immediately put the Cubs up 6-5. Then in the sixth, the Cubs offense continued to pour it on when “Mr. Clutch” Ben Zobrist hit a two-run homer into right that extended the Cubs lead to 3 runs.
Kyle Schwarber put the icing on the cake in the 7th inning with a solo homer to dead center that gave the Cubs a 9-5 lead. Anthony Rizzo extended the Cubs lead in the 8th with an RBI single, making it a 10-5 Cubs lead. Justin Wilson couldn’t get out of the ninth without allowing a run, getting just two outs. Luckily, Brandon Morrow came in and got the out giving the Cubs a 10-6 win over Minnesota.
One Great Moment
Addison Russell didn’t miss a beat on Friday. He had 4 RBI the day before and added 4 more to his total against the Twins. These four were really big because Russell delivered with a grand slam that instantly changed the outcome of the game putting the Cubs in winning position after trailing.
