RECAP — Cubs 11, Dodgers 5

The Cubs won the series finale against Los Angeles on the road as they split the series 2-2 heading back to Chicago with an 11-5 win on Thursday.

Standout Performers

Anthony Rizzo: 4 for 5, 1 R, 3 RBI
Addison Russell: 2 for 4, HR, 1 R, 4 RBI
Javy Baez: 3 for 5, 2 R, 1 RBI
Albert Almora: 2 for 5, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI

How it Happened

After giving up one run in the second, third, and fourth inning it was all Cubs starting in the sixth. Albert Almora blasted a solo-homer into left and Addison Russell knocked in a run via a sac-fly that tied the game up 3-3 in the sixth. Then a complete Cubs takeover and destruction of the Dodgers happened in the seventh. Jason Heyward gave the Cubs the lead with his RBI single into right center, putting the Cubs up 4-3. That was only the beginning for the Cubs.

Albert Almora followed Heyward up with an RBI infield single that extended it to 5-3 Cubs. Then Anthony Rizzo doubled to deep right center through the gap clearing the bases giving the Cubs an 8-3 lead. When things couldn’t get any better for the Cubs, they did with Addison Russell up to bat. Russell blasted his fourth homer of the year into left that scored Rizzo, putting the Cubs up by seven runs, 10-3. Javy Baez added to the lead in the eighth with an RBI single into shallow center, making it 11-3 Cubs. The Dodgers scored two off Luke Farrell in the ninth, but with the large lead, the Cubs wound up winning 11-5.

One Great Moment

With all the great offense, why not highlight the Cubs defense? There was a variety of defensive gems from David Bote to Javy Baez to Ian Happ. Happ made the “One Great Moment” of the game with his crazy spin and throw for the out at first in the sixth inning with one out and a tie ballgame. Check out the amazing defensive play from Happ:
