How it Happened
The Cubs offense was nearly as bad as the day before when they were blanked by the Brewers. They were once again shutout but with six hits this time. No run support for Mike Montgomery. The Cubs left nine runners on base, so the true pinpoint of the loss falls on no timely hitting Mike Montgomery was very strong with just the one bad pitch that was an outside fastball that Lorenzo Cain took deep giving the Brewers a 1-0 lead in the 3rd. Strong pitching from both sides would keep that score the same for the next six innings, as the Cubs fell 1-0. The only highlight of the Cubs for the Cubs besides excellent pitching was Steve Cishek and Brian Duensing each playing left field in the eighth inning. Cishek and Duensing switched back and forth as pitcher and left fielder twice.
The Cubs fall to 38-27 this season, now 1.5 games back from the Brewers.
Cubs have Thursday off before a three-game road series in St. Louis starting on Friday. Jon Lester is set to pitch the series opener on Friday at 7:15 PM CT on ABC 7 and 670 The Score.
