Triple A: Iowa Cubs

Off-day. Iowa opens a three-game series against Albuquerque on Tuesday at 8:08 PM Eastern.

The DSL #1 Cubs fell to the DSL #1 Pirates 7-3. Shortstop Fabian Pertuz was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and one walk.

The DSL #2 Cubs fell to the DSL Cardinals Red 5-4. Outfielder Carlos Morfa was 2 for 3 with a home run, two runs, one run batted in, and one walk.

  • Trey Martin finished game one resumed from 4/15 with a nice game, going 2 for 3 with three runs, one RBI, and one walk. Martin also went 1 for 3 with one run in the second game of the doubleheader for Tennessee. He is having a great season, batting .264 with 4 homers and 20 RBI.
  • Trevor Clifton pitched what should be his last game for the Smokies, with a promotion announced after his start. Clifton went five innings, allowing two hits and no earned runs with three walks and four strikeouts. He took the loss but had no run support and was otherwise dominant. Clifton is 3-4 this year but with a 2.86 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. Strong numbers earning the promotion to Iowa.
  • Although he is an afterthought at this point in the Dominican Summer League, Carlos Morfa is producing strong numbers in his first two games. Morfa is 5 for 8 with a home run, three runs scored, two runs batted in, and one walk for the DSL #2 Cubs. It should be interesting to watch Morfa progress and see if he can keep it up.
