The Cubs snapped a quick two-game skid with a big win over the Giants on Friday, winning 6-2 behind Kyle Hendricks brilliance.
Ben Zobrist: 2 for 4, 2 R, 2 RBI
Kris Bryant: 2 for 4, 2 RBI
Addison Russell: 2 for 3, 1 RBI
Kyle Hendricks: 7.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, Win
How it Happened
The Cubs got an early start on the Giants with a run in the first off Anthony Rizzo’s RBI single to left center that started a strong day for the offense. Kyle Hendricks gave up a home run in the fourth but other than that was brilliant with seven frames allowing one run. He would have gotten a no-decision with a 1-1 tie after Tommy La Stella pinch hit for Hendricks, but the Cubs offense delivered. Ben Zobrist doubled into left that tacked on two runs giving the Cubs a 3-1 lead. Then two at-bats later, Kris Bryant singled to shallow left center that drove in two more runs, giving the Cubs a sizeable 5-1 lead and “The Professor” a solid chance of earning the win. Addison Russell added an insurance run in the ninth with his RBI single, as the Cubs would go on to winning 6-2.
One Great Moment
Ben Zobrist always comes through with clutch hits including the game-winning one in World Series Game Seven. Zobrist delivered again on Friday with an RBI double into left field that gave the Cubs the lead back.
