The Cubs dominant start to this homestand continues, with a 3-2 victory over Colorado on Monday night, securing their fifth straight win and sole possession of first place in the NL Central.
Addison Russell: 2 for 3, 1 R, 1 RBI
Kris Bryant: 1 for 3, 1 R, 1 BB
Albert Almora: 1 for 4, 1 RBI
Jon Lester: 5 2/3 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K
How it Happened
The Cubs finally gave up runs, two of them, but both were unearned. Still, they managed to pull away with three runs. Addison Russell hit an RBI single to left center to get things going in the second, that scored Ben Zobrist from second for an early 1-0 lead. It would stay that way until the fifth inning when the Rockies got two runs, both unearned to take a 2-1 lead. Then in the fifth inning, Albert Almora singled to center for an RBI that scored Addison Russell from third, tying the game up 2-2. In the following inning, Kris Bryant tripled to lead it off for the Cubs. Anthony Rizzo would ground out to second in the next at-bat, but because of Bryant’s quickness, he was able to score with no throw giving the Cubs a 3-2 edge after Jon Lester was out of the game. The bullpen would do their job with 3 1/3 innings of scoreless pitching, as the Cubs went on to win 3-2. Luke Farrell picked up his first career win, reliving Jon Lester immediately after he was pulled.
One Great Moment
Every game now, it seems as if Albert Almora makes one ridiculous catch whether that’s in centerfield or in Kyle Schwarber’s territory, Almora is just a defensive highlight reel. Just as the Cubs Twitter captioned this video, this catch in the fourth inning for the first out probably cracked the Top-10 Albert Almora catches of the month with another amazing grab that’s “One Great Moment” worthy.

The Cubs improve to 16-10 this season on a 5-game win streak, with eight wins in the last ten games. They finally are in sole possession of first place in the NL Central and things should stay that way for quite some time.
Kyle Hendricks is on the hill for the second game of this series on Tuesday night at 7:05 PM CT on WGN and 670 The Score.
