Notes:

  • Cubs #3-ranked Prospect, Oscar De La Cruz, pitched a one-hitter for the Smokies in a fantastic rebound performance. De La Cruz went for six innings allowing just that one hit and one walk while striking out six and picking up the win for Tennessee. The first two starts did not go as planned for Oscar De La Cruz with the Smokies, but he settled down on Thursday with two more than the minimum faced in an overall dominant performance.
  • Vimael Machin had a very nice game with the Pelicans, going 2 for 4 with a homer, 2 runs, 1 RBI, and 1 BB. It was another great performance for the Cubs tenth round pick back in 2015, getting his 2018 batting average up to .265 with 9 hits and 11 RBI.
  • Rob Zastryzny pitched a solid three and one-third innings of relief for Iowa on Thursday, along the way to keep the score at 0-0. Iowa went on to lose that game in a tenth inning, 1-0 but that didn’t affect Zastryzny in any way. In four relief appearances this season, Zastryzny has allowed just three hits and 4 walks in 8 2/3 innings pitched. This could be the year Rob finally breaks out and makes the Cubs roster for good.
