After a monster 13-5 win over Pittsburgh on Thursday, the Cubs were only able to score 1 run in the series finale, as they fell to the Pirates 6-1.
Kyle Schwarber: 3 for 4, HR, 1 R, 1 RBI
Ian Happ: 2 for 4
Kyle Hendricks: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 7 SO
How it Happened
It was a game of home runs for both teams, with each side generating a combined 7 runs all from the long ball. Gregory Polanco of Pittsburgh homered off Kyle Hendricks in the first inning in what was probably the only hurdle for the Professor on Thursday. The other Kyle, Kyle Schwarber, got that run right back in the fourth inning when he belted his third home run of the season off Pirates starter Trevor Williams. Adam Frazier, Gregory Polanco, and Francisco Cervelli each homered for Pittsburgh in a three-inning stretch from the fifth to seventh ultimately putting the game away. The Cubs had some traffic in the eighth and ninth innings but could not score with runners in scoring position as they fell 6-1.
One Great Moment
The wind was blowing into Wrigley on an early-April Friday afternoon, which you would expect, but the two teams somehow hit 5 combined home runs. Kyle Schwarber accounted for one of those we mentioned earlier, and that took some skill to reach 404 feet according to stat cast battling against the wind.
Wind is blowing in.

The Cubs fall back to .500 at 6-6 and slip to third place in the NL Central. Pittsburgh and Milwaukee sit ahead of the Cubs each with wins on Friday. St. Louis is still on the outside looking in at fourth place, and the Reds are a pathetic 2-10 in fifth place.
The Cubs send out Yu Darvish to the mound in his Wrigley Field debut on Friday at 1:20 PM Central on NBC Sports Chicago and 670 The Score. It’s not really his first start in the Friendly Confines, but it is his first in a Cubs uniform. That should be fun to watch.
