23-year old pitcher Brendan King joins the South Bend Cubs from the Cubs Extended Spring Training on Wednesday, April 11th, 2018. Last season, King pitched in nine games (four starts) at Mesa and posted a 2.82 earned run average covering 22 and a third innings.
King was a 20th round pick of the Chicago Cubs last summer out of Holy Cross (Massachusetts).
Tonight, King pitched two innings allowing just one hit and no earned runs while striking out two. He utilizes four different pitch types with a fastball ranging around 90-92 mph, a curveball in the low-70s, a cutter in the mid-80s, and then a changeup in the mid-80s.
