- Tyson Miller produced an outstanding season debut for Myrtle Beach to earn the win. Miller went for 5.0 innings allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out seven in just the few frames pitched. He dominated the Keys with a K/9 equating out to 12.6 which is fantastic for minor league baseball. We will keep an eye out for Miller this year in what could be a breakout season to come.
- Jared Young tore it up for the South Bend Cubs in their comeback attempt that fell just short. Young went 4 for 4 from the plate with one run, two RBI, and a walk. He also played decent in his first game back in the season opener going 1 for 4 with one run and one RBI.
- Zack Short finally broke out with his first big game of the year with a 2 for 3 performance with two singles and two walks. Short had only reached base three times in his previous two games but had a great day with the Smokies. He has moved up very quickly within the Cubs farm system and is primed for an excellent 2018.
