The Cubs ended up winning the series against Milwaukee with another dominant pitching performance, this time from Jose Quintana, as they beat the Brewers 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Jose Quintana: 6.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K, W
Ben Zobrist: 2 for 4, HR, 1 R, 1 RBI
Jason Heyward: 1 for 3, 1 R, 1 BB
Albert Almora: 1 for 3, 1 RBI, 1 BB
How it Happened
All the Cubs runs came in a stretch of four innings, scoring one off Ben Zobrist’s home run to right field in the fourth, Albert Almora’s RBI double in the fifth to score Jason Heyward, and Tommy La Stella’s RBI ground ball that scored Victor Caratini in the seventh inning. Jose Quintana absolutely dominated on the mound, and so did the bullpen with a combined 9 Ks to just 2 walks to win this game. Brandon Morrow once again pitched a clean ninth in a save-situation and picked up save #2 on the season with a 1-2-3 inning.
One Great Moment
We don’t usually pick out defensive plays in games because the offense is fun, but Addison Russell’s defense can be too. Russell turned a nice play on a ground ball to the first baseman Victor Caratini for the second out in the fourth inning. It was not just a one knee catch, it was also footwork by Caratini to get the out.
