  • Javier Assad, the Cubs #23 prospect overall, churned a nice start on Opening Day for South Bend. Assad went for five innings allowing just three-hit baseball with no runs and 5 strikeouts. He picked up the win in his first start with the Single-A South Bend Cubs on Saturday. Assad has improved his WHIP every season since joining the Cubs farm system and could show big progress this season and emerge as one of the top pitching prospects.
  • Sticking with South Bend, Rollie Lacy was incredible out of the bullpen throwing three innings allowing just one hit and no walks while striking out 7. Lacy is credited for the hold in what could have been one of the best performances of his minor-league career. We should certainly watch out for him and see how he progresses as a reliever while the season moves along.
  • Trent Giambrone had a nice day in the doubleheader for Tennessee, finishing a combined 3 for 6 with a run and 4 RBI. A surging second baseman within the Cubs farm system, Giambrone produced a strong 2016 season with Eugene in 51 games. He showed a slight decrease in performance in 2017 but is already batting over .300 this season and could be back on the rise again.
