RECAP – Cubs 9, Dodgers 5

A pretty good 2016 and 2017 NLCS rematch you could say on Tuesday. Yu Darvish debuted against his former team he left in free agency, and the Cubs had an offensive breakout in just the first inning, as they went on to beat the Dodgers 9-5 for their second straight win.

Standout Performers

Javier Baez: 3 AB, 2 H, 1 R, 2 RBI
Albert Almora: 2 AB, 1 H (HR), 1 R, 2 RBI
Willson Contreras: 4 AB, 2 H, 1 R, 1 RBI
Peter Bourjos: 2 AB, 2 H, 2 RBI
Yu Darvish: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 SO, W

How it Happened

Where do you even start? The Dodgers got on the board first after a wild pitch from Yu Darvish which would be his only knock of the two innings he pitched. Darvish’s teammates backed him up in the bottom of that same inning, with RBI hits from Willson Contreras, Addison Russell, Javier Baez, and then Albert Almora who homered for a 6-1 Cubs lead after just one inning. The Dodgers put two more runs on the board in the fourth and fifth innings, as the Cubs still led 6-4. They would have another offensive response to back up Steve Cishek all with singles to drive in three runs over the next few innings, as the Cubs led 9-4 after seven. The Dodgers got an inside the park home run in the ninth, but that would be all the scoring, and the Cubs flew the “Double Yu” 9-5.

One Great Moment

The Cubs signed their guy, Yu Darvish, who they had been targeting all offseason. It was a long process to get Darvish here, but after all the hard work from Theo, it paid off. Cubs fans were eager to see Darvish in action in his first scheduled game, but he was a scratch due to illness. Tuesday was the first time Darvish pitched in the Cubby Blue and he did not disappoint. Here are some highlights of his pitching performance for our “One Great Moment”.

It may be just Spring Training, but the players don’t care! Runs came in bunches today for the two sides, but the Cubs ultimately won the NLCS rematch which is nice revenge although the score does not count for anything special. Yu Darvish debuting in a Cubs uniform is all that matters, and this upcoming season looks great!

Next Up

The Cubs will face the Indians in Goodyear on Wednesday at 7:05 PM Central. It will be the first game under the lights for the Cubs in Spring Training this year.
