Today we will get to see new Cubbies, Yu Darvish and Brandon Morrow in action, as well as a healthier Ben Zobrist all in the same day against the Dodgers at 2:05 PM Central.
Darvish was slated for a start much sooner than this on March 1st, but he was a scratch due to an illness. Yu Darvish is all set for today’s matchup which is quite a coincidence because he will face the Dodgers for the first time since leaving in free agency. That should make things interesting today, and better yet, it’s an NLCS rematch. What more can you ask for?
Morrow didn’t have any previous chances before now to come out of the bullpen, but it listed a relief pitching in the lineup, meaning Joe Maddon will use him. Just like Yu Darvish, Morrow is also picking a funny day to make his Cubs Spring Training debut. He too played for the Dodgers last season and this will be Morrow’s first time facing them since leaving.
Finally, Zobrist makes his return to the lineup after missing all 11 games to this point with an apparent back soreness. It was just a precaution for the 36-year old, but he will make his Spring Training debut today in the leadoff spot. Joe Maddon said there were four potential leadoff hitters we will see in Spring, and Zobrist becomes the fourth and probably final.
Just like most of the Spring Training games, this one is not on TV, but you can watch a pretty cool pitch simulator on MLB.com and keep track of the play-by-play and score for today’s game.
