The Cubs extended their winning streak to 5-games on Friday, beating the Angels in Tempe 6-4 backed by late-game heroics from Ryan Court. You may not have heard of Ryan yet, be he had a huge impact on the game.
Ryan Court: 2 AB, 1 H, 1 R, 2 RBI
Mark Zagunis: 1 AB, 1 H, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Jason Vosler: 1 AB, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Duane Underwood: 1.0 IP, 0 Hits, 0 Runs, 1 BB, 1 SO, W
How it Happened
This time around unlike previous games, the Cubs did not get on the board first, as the Angels led 2-0 after four innings. Later in the sixth inning, the Cubs finally score their first run on a wild pitch which scored Ryan Court. The Angels would tack on one more run, but Mark Zagunis and Jason Vosler drove in two runs in the seventh to tie it at 3-3. Then came the heroic moment from Ryan Court. Court in the top of the ninth doubled on a ground ball to center field and with a fielding error, drove in three runs in their last chance effort to lead 6-3. LA was able to get one run in the bottom of the inning, but it was not enough as the Cubs held on to win 6-4.
One Great Moment
For our “One Great Moment” of the game, we will go back to a fantastic fielding gem from Javy Baez once again. In the bottom of the second with two runners on, Baez made the sparkling catch while sliding to prevent more base runners or potentially a run. Here’s the clip:

Although it does not count in the regular season, the Cubs have won five straight games in Spring, and have not lost since the opener against Milwaukee. They are fun to watch right now, the prospects are playing very well, and in limited at-bats, the role players are also doing great including Ian Happ. It’s always a fun time to be a Cubs fan during Spring Training.
The Cubs will face the Reds on Saturday at 2:05 PM Central at Sloan Park in Mesa.
