Matt Painter Named Midseason Coach of the Year

Just when things couldn’t possibly get any better for Purdue, Matt Painter was just named the Midseason Coach of the Year according to the team’s official Twitter. The honor comes after a 16-2 start to the season, a 12-game win streak, and a Top-5 ranking in the national poll.

It’s really incredible to see what Painter has done since the rough stretch transforming a rattled team into one of the best in the country. In their last time out, the Boilermakers won in an exciting game against Michigan on the road 70-69. The win marked their fifth against a Big Ten opponent, being one of only two teams still undefeated in the conference.

Purdue is set for another game on Saturday at 12:00 PM Eastern when they face the Minnesota Golden Gophers on the road. A win would should bump the Boilers into the Top-3 nationally and possibly further led by the Midseason Coach of the Year Matt Painter. Minnesota holds a 2-3 record in conference play and have lost two straight in ugly fashion.
