Notre Dame’s five-game win streak sadly came to an end Wednesday night, as they fell on the road to Georgia Tech 60-53. The Irish this time were simply outmatched by a stronger Georgia Tech team who came out looking to rumble, starting out and finishing great.
Martinas Geben led the Irish in scoring with 16 points on 8-13 shooting, along with 9 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. TJ Gibbs and John Mooney each added 11 points to Notre Dame’s 53. Gibbs added 7 assists while Mooney grabbed 8 rebounds. It’s hard to judge individual player performances without Bonzie Colson because he makes everyone better out on the court. One thing worth noting out of the top three performers for Notre Dame, TJ Gibbs played all 40 minutes for the second consecutive game.
Georgia Tech outpaced the Irish, down 30-20 at halftime and then barely managed to outscore the Yellow Jackets 33-30 in the second half. Notre Dame’s opening half was not the prettiest they have seen all season, going cold for the final ten minutes after leading 16-15. Notre Dame made drastic improvements in the second half, with a 9-0 stretch at one point giving them a 38-37 cushion with 11 minutes left in the action. Georgia Tech responded with a scoring run of its own and never looked back.
