IU and Purdue are one of the classic rivalries in college sports but also a great one to watch unfold every season. From the Old Oaken Bucket to “IU Sucks” chants at Mackey Arena there just isn’t anything like it. The heated rivalry is now taking a new twist down to the high school level.
When McCutcheon (IN) and Zionsville (IN) clash on Saturday night in high school hoops it will feature a very rare one-on-one between a Hoosier and a Boilermaker. Future Indiana guard Rob Phinisee plays for McCutcheon while future Purdue guard Isaiah Thompson reps Zionsville. Both are the starters on their respected team and will be the matchup everyone is watching down in Lafayette.
It’s amazing to think you can take such a prestigious college rivalry between two in-state teams down to the high school level, but it’s going to happen Saturday night. Of course, with four commits for IU in its 2018 class and the Tip-off classic we have already seen future Hoosiers teammates face off with each other. Now we have the rare opportunity to watch two future enemies on opposing sides face off at the same position on the court.
McCutcheon is the home team when facing Zionsville. The game is slated for 7:30 PM Eastern where 2018 Indiana Commit Rob Phinisee will be facing 2019 Purdue Commit Isaiah Thompson.
