Senior Defensive Tackle for the Purdue Football team, Gelen Robinson, has been named third team All-Big Ten in a vote by the conference coaches. The conference office announced the All-Big Ten defensive and special teams as voted upon by the coaches and media today. The offensive team will be honored tomorrow and the individual award recipients Thursday.
Robinson started every game (12) for the Boilermakers, racking up a team-high 11.5 tackles for loss, including 4.0 sacks, 48 total tackles, two PBUs and forced and recovered a fumble during the regular season.
Jeff Brohm and the new coaching staff at Purdue moved Robinson from his original defensive end position to the defensive tackles and he delivered a productive season.
LB Ja’Whaun Bentley, DE Danny Ezechukwu, T Lorenzo Neal and S Jacob Thieneman were also named honorable mentions by the coaches. Bentley, Ezechukwu, Neal, LB Markus Bailey, cornerbacks Da’Wan Hunte and Josh Okonye were also honorable mention selections by the media.
What’s so great about the honor is that Robinson probably shouldn’t even be playing Football. His father was Glenn Robinson, an NBA great, and his brother is Glenn Robinson III who currently plays for the Indiana Pacers. It’s pretty funny how someone from a Basketball family can turn into a Football Star on defense.
Congratulations Gelen Robinson on a great milestone after accomplishing so much during his Senior season!
