INDIANAPOLIS, IN.– In just 4 preseason games with Indiana going 3-1, Domantas Sabonis and TJ Leaf shined and impressed for their first games for the Blue and Gold.
Domantas Sabonis played in 3 of the 4 games with the Pacers and averaged 12.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Sabonis shot the ball extremely well, with 48.1% on field goals and 33.3% on three-pointers. His only weakness was his free throw percentage which was a tab above 60%. Theoretically, 6 out of 10 isn’t bad for big men but Sabonis cashed on a great preseason.
Pacers 1st round draft selection, TJ Leaf, played in all 4 games in the preseason and shined. Leaf averaged 9.3 points and 2.8 rebounds with a great shooting percentage. He shot 55.6% on field goals, 62.5% on three-pointers, and 66.7% on free throws.
Both Sabonis and Leaf contributed heavily off the bench.
Leaf completely took over the second game of the preseason, scoring 18 points in the 4th quarter alone. He hit 3 three-pointers in a 1:56 stretch and played a large part of the comeback win over Cleveland.
Sabonis also stood out in the come from behind win against the Cavs, scoring 17 points in only 19 minutes of the bench.
Both Sabonis and Leaf were supposed to help pull the team together with a strong second unit and they did just that in the preseason. The season opener on October 18th should be exciting to watch. If the preseason has any bearing on the regular season, Sabonis and Leaf are in for a great Pacers debut season.
