Week 6: Purdue Football preview vs. Minnesota

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN.– Minnesota will be coming to Ross-Ade Stadium for the 3rd home game of the 2017 season for Purdue.

Purdue is coming off a bye week after falling to No. 8 Michigan the previous Saturday. The Boilermaker defense has improved tremendously from 2016 and leads the nation in scoring defense improvement at 16.5 fewer points allowed per game.

Minnesota comes in fresh off a loss to Maryland. Minnesota boasts a very good defense only allowing opponents to score 13.8 points per game. The only reason for that is because they have been beating up on small schools.

The Golden Gophers average 30.8 points per game, while Purdue scores 29.3 per game. Minnesota only allows opponents to 13.8 points per game, while the Boilermakers allow 21.8 per game. The yardage per game favors Purdue while they average 392.0 yards per contest. Minnesota only averages 367.8 per game on the season.

Saturday marks only the second Big Ten matchup for the Boilermakers as they look for their first win against their conference foes.

The ESPN Matchup Predictor is very close giving Minnesota a slight .6% edge. Of course, they are not always accurate considering they had Purdue as underdogs against Ohio and you saw how that game went.

Purdue and Minnesota are set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at Ross-Ade Stadium. The game will be televised live on ESPN2.
