SOUTH BEND, IN.– #22 Notre Dame cruised to a 52-17 crushing win over Miami (Ohio) to start the season 4-1! A large part of the scoring, including six touchdowns, was in the first half alone. After that, it was a no-doubter that the Irish would easily beat Miami (OH).
Brandon Wimbush had 4 total touchdowns (3 Pass, 1 Rush) to lead the Irish. He finished 7-for-18 on the air attack with 119 yards but three touchdowns. Wimbush ran the ball eleven times for 36 yards and a TD in addition to his passing game.
Josh Adams led Irish rushers with 8 carries for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns. Adams averaged whopping 19.9 yards per carry with a breakaway run that went for 73 yards. Tony Jones Jr. added 4 rushes for 48 yards, while Deon McIntosh carried the ball 12 times for 47 yards and a TD.
Miles Boykin led Notre Dame receivers with one catch going for 54 yards and a touchdown. Equanimeous St. Brown added 3 catches for 42 yards and a touchdown, while Chase Claypool caught 2 passes for 28 yards and a touchdown.
The Irish defense as an entire unite recorded 67 tackles, 3.0 sacks, 4 tackles for loss, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 interception. Nyles Morgan and Drue Tranquill tied for the team lead with 7 tackles apiece. Jerry Tillery led Notre Dame in sacks and tackles for loss with 1.5 in each category. Jay Hayes recovered the only fumble of the game and Greer Martini returned an interception for 42 yards.
Scoring came with ease, with the Irish scoring a touchdown on each of their first three drives. They would go onto a 28-7 lead going into only the 2nd quarter. They scored 17 more points and led 45-14 going into the break.
The scoring slowed down for Notre Dame only scoring one second-half touchdown but they already had six first-half touchdowns to lead the way.
