CHICAGO, IL.– Since the season officially ended for all the Cubs farm clubs, this means the Cubs would quickly release their Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Year award winners. Both guys were a complete surprise with Victor Caratini and Jen-Ho Tseng earning the honors.
Caratini batted .342/.393/.558/.951 with 10 homers and 61 RBI with Iowa this season. He joined the major-league Cubs a few times this season and then made the final roster after the September call-up period.
Tseng went 13-4 with a 2.54 ERA in 24 starts for Tennessee and Iowa. He finished second in strikeouts for the entire farm system as well as 4th in ERA among starters. Tseng broke out in late June and early July which earned him Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Month and a promotion to Iowa.
Both of these guys came at a surprise because Caratini didn’t even spend half a season in the minors while there were better pitchers to nominate than Tseng. You had several guys including Adbert Alzolay, Duncan Robinson, and Bryan Hudson with great records and top-notch ERA and WHIP.
Congratulations Victor and Jen-Ho!
